Early in the morning you will be met by your EcoCircuitos guide in the lobby of your hotel for 2.5 hour drive to Portobelo located in the Caribbean Colon Province.
Optional: We strongly recommend to take the early-morning Transcontinental Train ride from Panama to Colon with scenic views of lush rainforest and the Panama Canal covered in mystic morning fogs.
As you begin to approach the Portobelo area on the way from Colon, the road will begin to parallel the palm-fringed Caribbean Sea coastline before reaching this charming coastal town.
It is hard to believe that this sleepy little town once was one of the most important ports in the Caribbean Sea! During the 17th and 19th centuries the Port of Portobelo was used as a Spanish Fortress and as a Caribbean terminal. Portobelo was attacked by pirates several times; the best known attack was organized by Captain Morgan.
Learn about the incredible history as you stroll around the colorful alleys with your historic guide. Afterwards, opt for one of the many options of activities in and around the beautiful Portobelo National Park.
