The inauguration of the Panama Canal Expansion in June 2016 changes international maritime trade – once again. EcoCircuitos’ special expansion tour gives insights to the different phases of the Canal; from its influence on mankind and trade history; to its role in animal specie migration and importance for Panama’s inhabitants – from the capital to indigenous communities.

Jungle Boat Tour Canal Watershed

Board a boat and head off on a jungle expedition across the Gatun Lake in the Panama Canal. Watch out for monkeys, sloths and other wildlife endemic to the area as you pass by gigantic cargo ships transiting the waterway, an interesting contrast to the natural surroundings. (B, L)

Pirate Trail: Fort San Lorenzo & Agua Clara Locks

Explore fortress ruins on the edge of steep cliffs deep in the rainforest before visiting the Agua Clara Locks on the Caribbean Side of the Canal. (B, L)
