From the treetops of the rainforest, keep your eyes out for wildlife.
Early morning we’ll leave the island and start our 2-hour journey towards San San Pond Sak, a wetland lagoon area in the district of Changuinola listed by the Ramsar Convention Group as a site of international importance.
Once at the protected area, we’ll start our wildlife observation in hopes of spotting sloths, monkeys, hawks, iguanas, snakes, and, of course, manatees. Manatees in the San San River are generally found in shallow waters associated mainly with the roots of mangroves and riparian vegetation. The mangroves in this area are the black and red species, which is also an important site for marine turtles (leatherback, hawksbill, and green).
Additionally, we will listen to a brief presentation regarding the importance of this site and the conservation projects.
