Considered a “Gift of the Gods”, the cacao tree and seeds were very important to various ancient Mesoamerican civilizations. Hidden in the rainforests of Bocas del Toro, discover the ancient secrets of chocolate.
Today we will journey to a local cacao cultivation and chocolate production farm managed and run by the indigenous Ngabe community. A local farmer will guide you through the farm while describing the entire process from the growing, protecting and harvesting of the cacao. At the highest point of your hike you will find a ranch where local Ngabe women will teach you how to make chocolate the way they have been doing it for centuries. If you’d like to support them, some organic chocolate will be available for purchase.
