The Bahia is located in one of the oldest buildings in Bocas del Toro and is worth a visit for its history alone. Built in 1905 this main street house has survived the earthquakes of 1917 and 1991 and has housed the United Fruit Company offices, three Consulates and the Tropical Radio and Telegraph Company before it was converted into a hotel in 1968.
All rooms have been completely renovated with careful attention to keeping the old charm of the house undisturbed. The Lobby still houses the huge safe that was directly built into there during the original construction by the Banana Company.
The spirit of this hotel is best enjoyed on the upper floor balcony, where the buffet-style breakfast can be enjoyed against the backdrop view of Main Street and the bay behind it.
All bedrooms are comfortably set up with air conditioning, private bathrooms and cable TV and give you the impression of being right at home. For a special food experience the hotel hosts the only Uruguayan Barbecue Restaurant in Bocas del Toro, which also provides an excellent choice of wines.
